The Original Game

Exploding Kittens is a fun competitive game where players compete to be the last alive when the exploding card is drawn from the deck. The game has many interesting elements to the game and can be even more creative when players can work together to survive. 

The Expansion Pack

We created an expansion pack for the Game Exploding Kittens. Where there are now moral dilemmas players will face when playing the game.  In this game, Five factions are under the'meowfia''s' control. Your goal is to survive for the entire week by keeping the meowfia happy and defending both yourself and the other factions. Manoeuvre through the treacherous setting, plan to protect your allies, and make sure you maintain the favour of the controlling power."

Gobina Mathyaparana: “This expansion pack, plus the original Exploding Kittens Game more of a tactical survival game with friends. Everyone needs to work together to endure the Meowfia Boss's Wrath before the 5-day work week is up. Before this expansion pack the original Exploding Kitten game was about self survival, while this game introduces the players to factions which have their own sets of morals they must follow to survive. To this expansion pack, we added brand new card types that include Situation Cards, Moral Cards, Faction Cards, and Action Cards. There are a few cards from the original game that are still being used for this expansion pack.

The game changes from self-survival to a team-based game, making the players think about their colleagues when coming to make a final decision. This is why there is also a debating and voting system to the expansion pack, creating a conversation instead of playing a gaming of deceit. This new mechanic makes the players reflect on their actions and holds them accountable for what has happened in the game. Instead of mindlessly playing cards that have special abilities, to avoid exploding.”

Megan McMullen: “With the inception of this expansion pack, our aim was to evolve the original Exploding Kittens game into a collaborative survival experience, where strategic cooperation is paramount. 'Exploding Kittens: Moral Trials' transforms the gameplay from a solitary pursuit of survival into a team-based adventure, where players must unite to withstand the formidable challenges posed by the Meowfia Boss's wrath.Prior to this expansion, the original game focused on individualistic survival instincts. However, with the introduction of factions, each governed by its own moral code, players are now compelled to consider collective well-being and adhere to the values of their faction for mutual survival.

By introducing new card types such as Situation Cards, Moral Cards, Faction Cards, and Action Cards, we sought to enrich the gameplay experience, offering players a diverse array of strategic options and moral dilemmas to navigate. The incorporation of a debating and voting system adds an interactive dimension to the game, fostering dialogue and encouraging players to make decisions collaboratively. This mechanic prompts players to reflect on the ethical implications of their choices and holds them accountable for their actions, promoting a sense of mindfulness and responsibility.
